Compagnie Théâtre Evasion (C.T.E.)

Compagnie Théâtre Evasion (C.T.E.) is a cultural association based in Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso. It was created in July 1995 in Ouagadougou by Ildevert Meda and Erick Nazaire Zongo.
The objective of C.T.E. is to potentiate Live Arts in Burkina Faso through the professionalization of the theatrical environment. Since his creation, C.T.E. acts in these fields:

  • Training (training workshops, initiation to theater and storytelling…);
  • Entertainment (events, storytelling, theatre for young people and for kids);
  • Theatre performances production and tours (classical and modern authors, eventually adapted);
  • National and international collaborations and coproduction (Burkina Faso, Mali, France, Norway, Italy, Canada, Germany, Switzerland).

In 2006 the Federation of Cartel was created by C.T.E. and three other companies work in the same field and having some mutual projects. The federation’s objective is to share administration and financial capacities in order to be able to afford more ambitious projects like the festival Récréâtrales and big international collaborations.
Since its creation, C.T.E.

  • Produced, or co-produced more than twenty theatrical plays, that toured in Africa and Europe;
  • Proposed tenth/ten of workshop/ and one permanent training (since 2007);
  • Produced three social intervention performances and toured them in more than 200 cities and villages in Burkina Faso;
  • Co-organized several annual and biannual festivals;
  • Organizing casting and actor-coaching for the Burkinabe’s film industry;
  • Organized a theatrical season in the Cartel’s stage.

For three years, C.T.E. has been collaberating with the German director Clemens Bechtel in international projects produced by Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg (“hunger for trade”) and University of Basel (Switzerland).



Luca Fusi

Luca Fusi

Luca Fusi is a theatre actor, director and trainer. He has more than 20 years of experience on stage and more than 10 years of experience teaching theatre. He was trained by Marina Spreafico, director of Scuola di Teatro Arsenale (Milan, Italy), Jacques Lecoq’s assistant and teacher in the École International Jacques Lecoq (Paris, France).
Since 1994, Luca Fusi has acted in dozens of plays, in a variety of styles: Shakespeare, Ionesco, Sartre, Commedia dell’Arte, Pirandello, etc. As director, he has influenced fifteen theatrical productions performed in theatres worldwide.
Luca Fusi has been a regular teacher in several theatre schools in Milan and led dozens of workshops in Europe, America and Africa. Since 2008 he is the director of studies and principal teacher in the École Supérieure de Théâtre Jean Pierre Guingané in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Luca has been living in Burkina since 2005.



Ildevert Meda

Ildevert Meda

Theatre actor and director, Ildevert Meda is one of the most talented directors of his generation in Burkina Faso. His company, Théâtr’Evasion, is a reference in West Africa’s theatre field, thanks to Ildevert Meda’s high standards and rigorous sense of professionalism.
As an actor, Ildevert Meda has been active in theatre and cinema for the past 30 years and has played a key role in professionalizing the theatre sector in Burkina Faso. He constitutes a reference in Burkina Faso, especially for the new generations of artists.
Ildevert Meda has been among the initiators of the most important cultural events in Burkina Faso, such as: the C.I.T.O. theater (one of the most famous professional theaters in West Africa), Récréâtrales (one of the most eminent festivals in West Africa) and Federation du Cartel (the most active theater organization in Burkina Faso).
